BitProfile: Own your network
BitProfile is now live at: bitprofile.io!
Today we’re launching BitProfile, a fully decentralized social network on Ethereum. BitProfiles hold verified NFT avatars, links to your content, and followers.
Don’t rent your network, own it.
With existing web2 social media sites, users are held hostage because they don’t own their network of connections, even though they’ve worked hard to build them. Those connections are held in centralized servers and are at risk. If users don’t agree with the direction the websites goes in, they can’t take their network of users to another website. This gives existing web2 sites immense power over our communities.
With BitProfile you own your data and social graph. It’s impossible to get de-platformed and you can take your network with you to another website if you choose. All data is held on Ethereum Mainnet + Layer 2… BitProfile has no servers. Your account is simply your Ethereum wallet.
An on-chain profile contract holds your verified NFT profile picture, links (like Linktree), followers, and your ENS name. Your profile already exists at bitprofile.io/ens (or /address). When someone clicks on your profile picture, they’ll be redirected to the OpenSea page of the NFT.
Cross Rollup, keep it cheap.
To keep it cheap, different parts of the website use different Ethereum networks. Polygon/Matic is used for following and adding links. The Ethereum Mainnet is used for connecting an NFT avatar and your ENS name. The website automatically adds and switches networks for you depending on the interaction.
To keep the experience seamless, we currently have a faucet that gives BitProfile users MATIC so they can use the website for free (should be enough for 50 transactions). This happens automatically when users visit the website and connect their wallet.
The future.
We will soon add support for other chains as Arbitrum, Optimism, and ZkSync. You will be able to have 5 followers on Optimism, 10 on ZkSync, 5 on Polygon, and the frontend would show 20 followers.
We will also be adding the ability to create on-chain NFT posts. These would be NFTs that can live on any network you choose. You can have a very cheap post NFT on a Rollup, or a more expensive one on the Mainnet.
BitProfile will have a feed that pulls in your network’s posts from on-chain and off-chain sources. The feed will also include on-chain activity pulled in from Mainnet + layer 2s, including NFTs.
A decentralized Ecosystem.
Since all the data is on Ethereum, websites besides BitProfile can use its network for their own unique uses and frontend. Anyone else can come and build a great social network website using the connections on BitProfiles!
There can also be different versions of BitProfile that show different types of data. If you don’t agree with the direction that the BitProfile frontend goes in, you can use a different website and still access your network of followers.
