First time including an image in a post! I love the visuals.

For some context, in the beginning chapters of Deuteronomy, Moses is recounting the history of the Israelites so far. The below quote is part of what God had told Moses to say to the people, meaning that these were God’s direct words.

‘For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He knows your going through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.’

— Deuteronomy 2:7

I feel like this short passage is so beautiful and comforting. First off, we can see that God is the one who provides the blessings that result from our honest work. We may assume that our bosses, our professors, and even ourselves are the ones who give us what we need, but it’ll always be God. He’s the ultimate giver and provider, and all that we have and need comes straight from His hands. Other than material possessions, our spiritual fruitfulness also comes from the Lord:

‘I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.’

— John 15:5

I really love that last phrase. We are seriously powerless and useless without the Lord’s provision, and as much as our ego wants to boast that we can do plenty on our own, we honestly can’t. Not only do we need Jesus to be saved, but we also need Him in our daily lives.

Returning to the Deuteronomy passage, it’s incredible to hear directly from God that He knows us so intimately and is present with us even in the midst of our suffering and confusion. Although the Israelites’ rebellion against God caused them to wander in the desert for 40 years, that didn’t mean that God abandoned them. He was still with them, watching over them and providing for their needs. Isn’t that so wonderful? I really treasure the fact that our Lord knows what we’re facing and how we’re feeling, and that no matter what, He understands us and our needs. As much as our closest friends and family can empathize with us and vice versa, there’s no one else who can truly know and comfort us other than our God. That’s the God we serve. A loving, all-knowing, comforting, guiding, powerful, and merciful God.
