Why I became a teacher with Liv Svirsky

Liv Svirsky joined us in late 2014. When she’s not creating micro courses, she’s a child and family psychologist. She also appears regularly on Swedish television where she gives advice on sleep, sibling rivalry, rewards and many other topics.

Since she’s also a professor at the University of Stockholm, we became interested in hearing how she ended up in the field of teaching. Check out her course on parenting here.

Is there a teacher that you want to thank and/or highlight?
Absolutely! The teachers I remember the best are those who have been experts in their subjects, who loved the subject they taught, and who were able to share their knowledge and experience, not by following a script but on the basis that they knew the subject inside and out. I always admired how it showed that the subject was in their blood and how easy it was for them to get others to start loving their subject.

So, why did you decide to become a teacher (or coach, facilitator, trainer etc)?
Just before I got my Psychology degree, I held my first lecture and I fell in love with it right away.
I get a great rush from sharing my knowledge and from getting other people interested in it. The joy of teaching has been with me ever since. I like lecturing and writing in various forms: books, here at Daily Bits Of, answering readers’ questions in magazines for example.

What advice would you have for people out there wanting to start sharing their knowledge
Choose a topic that you are passionate about and think about how to get others to understand how important and interesting the subject is. If you are passionate it will be easier to “infect others”.
