Great piece, Ben!

Ha! Anything John Turturro — especially this obscure — deserves further research. Upon a quick Wikipedia query, I learned:

The project was filmed as “Lame Ducks”; however, when the film’s producers (David and Jerry Zucker) left for another studio, Paramount scrapped the publicity campaign, changed the title, and withdrew the film after its initial screenings. Brain Donors attracted attention on the home video market,[citation needed] which has resulted in a cult following according to its screenwriter, Pat Proft.

The other thing I learned is that the run time is only 79 minutes, and from my understanding 90 minutes is like the absolute minimum for a feature film. In other words, Brain Donors was barely a movie — but a great one at that, at least in the Werman household.
