Become more familiar with companies who are doing well in your area. In every case, there sits a talented team of people getting the job done. Once you know the companies who hire well in your region and beyond, it’s time to begin the talent mapping process.
Hiring? You Better Be Talent Mapping — @bkielinski
Talent Mapping is the proactive identification of potential candidates in your market. Talent mapping involves plotting the employer landscape for competitive advantages, identifying and tracking high-calibre individuals and organizations, and understanding core skills, competencies, and capabilities. Knowing who they are allows for successful management of a talent pipeline – mitigating key appointments being made reactively.

These people exist on the web. You better know how to find them. LinkedIn. AngelList. GitHub. Stack OverFlow. Meetup. Facebook. Twitter, etc.

You can also find resumes posted on the web. One great site is brupt.com. It allows you to search the web for Word (.doc) and PDF (.pdf) files and resumes.

Automation
Now that you have some of the tools to find these people, how can you automate this process?
Track Companies:

This will give you a daily update of resumes from people who most recently worked at Comcast Interactive Media (CIM) in Philadelphia right to your inbox:

You can also create a saved search on LinkedIn:

Select “Save search” in the upper right corner of the screen where you see the list of employees.

You will have an option to automatically track employees from CIM on a weekly or monthly basis — directly to your inbox.
The better the company, the less likely you will see their employees on a job board. In this case, check out Meetup.com. Put yourself out there. The good ones will rarely come to you. They are being inundated with calls/emails/tweets/etc. about new and exciting opportunities. Time to get to work.
