VR Ads — Marketing in Its Infancy
360 Degree Video is the latest marketing technology to go mainstream, yet view advertisers have jumped into the game. Further, even though no special glasses are needed, few consumers have seen these ads.
Marketing is expected to do one (or more) of three things: 1) increase brand awareness, 2) increase brand perception, and 3) increase purchase intent.
While the being the first brand to jump on a new platform plays a strong role on brand perception and may drive sales, awareness has been almost non-existent. As of this writing, all VR ads collectively have been viewed about 11 million times, about 10% of the audience that watches a single Super Bowl ad.
Below are those “Click and Drag for 360° Video” ads we’ve seen to date on the Facebook platform. Drag the screen with your mouse to look forward, backwards, up and down.
Expect this marketing platform to take off in 2016 as brands transition beyond the novelty and create meaningful consumer content.
