Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.” Romans 12:11 (TLB)

Leadership comes with responsibility. When you become a leader, your responsibilities increase. Unfortunately, when some people step into a position of leadership they become lazy. They think they’re exempt from having to work hard and from pulling their weight so they do nothing at all. They like the perks of leadership but not the works of leadership. Nobody enjoys being under lazy leadership. In fact it’s just annoying. What does it mean to be lazy? Laziness is unwillingness to work. It’s refusing to use your energy to help out. It’s being idle and slothful. Laziness has infected our leadership. What does a lazy leader look like?

Lazy Leaders:

  • Do nothing
  • Watch others work
  • Hide, play and relax when it’s time to work
  • Make commands
  • Full of excuses
  • Escape responsibility by passing and dumping off their tasks on others
  • Always do the bare minimum while expecting the impossible from their team

A lazy leader will never have the respect of their team but they will have the resentment of their team. Having strong work ethics is what earns you the respect of your team. Proverbs 12:24 (TLB) says “Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and never succeed.” If you don’t work hard, people will believe you’re unworthy of being their leader. They won’t listen to you and then they’ll begin to model your behavior. They’ll start following your lead by giving little to no effort in their performance. If you want a team of hard workers then go the extra mile to embody that in your example. It’s hard to have a hard working team if you aren’t a working leader. No one should out work you as a leader! Laziness is a sin. It doesn’t glorify God. It’s time for YOU to be diligent in the work that God has given you. God has blessed you with a job- so would you DARE to CARE about it?! Whatever you do, give it your all! It’s up to you to stop being A LAZY LEADER!
