If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously.” Romans 12:8 (NLT)

The Bible talks about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit given to the church is the gift of leadership. Let’s talk about what the gift of leadership is, how to recognize if you possess that gift and how to operate in that gift!

What Is The Gift of Leadership?

The Greek word for lead in this scripture is proistemi. It has a couple of definitions. One meaning is to rule over, to govern, to give aid or to direct. It also means to care or be concerned about. The gift of leadership is very people-oriented more than just task-oriented. To have the gift of leadership you must care for those you have charge over. This deals with relationships. The gift of leadership is about relationships and responsibilities.

Do You Have The Gift of Leadership?

Ask yourself…

  • Do you care for God’s people and do you want to lead them into a deeper relationship with Christ and one other?
  • Do you have a passion for leading? Are you a visionary? Can you motivate others?
  • Are you concerned about the well-being of others?
  • Are you truly committed to the responsibilities of leadership?

Reflect and pray about this.

How To Operate In The Gift of Leadership?

Scripture says if we have the gift of leadership we should lead with zeal. The Greek word for zeal is zelos which means enthusiasm and eagerness. Another translation says we should lead with diligence. We need to make haste. Let’s be about it! Whoever has the gift of leadership should take that gift seriously. There’s responsibility to fulfill. Let’s be responsible. Use the gift to help build the body of Christ.

The gift of leadership is a gift from the Holy Spirit given to the church. This gift is coupled with relationships and responsibilities. You must have a heart that cares about the people and a commitment to move them forward. That requires leadership. Pray and ask God if you have this gift, if you do- ask Him how you can use that gift to make a difference for the kingdom of God. Thank God for The Spiritual Gift of Leadership.
