It’s not often that we get to see young black actors grow up and stay in the spotlight. Sometimes celebs get tired of fame and decide to pursue a different career path. At other times, they try too hard, only to fade into obscurity.

1. Zelda Harris

The first actor on this list is Zelda Harris. If you were in front of the TV around the early nineties, you’d certainly remember her as the quick-witted and passionate protagonist Troy ‘the boy’ in Spike Lee’s ‘Crooklyn’.

Zelda Harris was born on 17 February 1985 and started acting at the age of three. She was born in New York City to Karen and Philip Harris and has a sister, Kenya.

Harris was a brilliant little girl and was able to get her first acting role by beating more than one thousand other children who had also auditioned for the role of Troy Carmichael in Spike Lee’s ‘Crooklyn’.
