How Can We Achieve Age Diversity in Silicon Valley?
Steven Levy

This has not been my experience as an older tech worker, software engineer who develops web apps in ruby and javascript. I’ve found plenty of contact gigs. Although most of my coworkers are younger than me, but not usually super-young (say, early 20s). Of course, I cannot say when I am not hired if age was a factor; nor do I really care, as I have enough opportunity.

Also when I was in on discussions for new candidates, it was never raised as an issue. In fact we did hire another dev in his mid-40s at one of my recent jobs.

Race and gender do continue to be an issue for startups in SF; I’d say nearly everyone in a technical role is a white or Asian male.
