Sales: the medicine your business needs!
Mark Cuban may have said it best
“There has never been a business that succeeded without sales.” Entrepreneurs often think they need a business plan or the infrastructure to support a growing company, but really, they don’t. They need sales. So get out there and sell.
How true are those words? Of course without the right infrastructure your customer/client churn will be at an all time high so I believe there has to be a fine balance between growth and retention strategies.
You need to assign accountability within your management team to ensure you have the right people focused on the right problems as it pertains to top-line and bottom-line.
The reality is that it’s hard to build momentum and achieve a desired profitability level without Sales. It’s hard to spend money on good things such as new people, raises, training, and all those positive initiatives without Sales. Ultimately it depends on your business and what defines success but Cuban is right in most instances; to succeed you need to sell your product and/or services, it’s that simple. If you don’t have processes around the top, middle, and bottom of your funnel, heck if you don’t even know what a ‘funnel’ is, it’s going to be a challenging road ahead! So as Cuban said, get out there and sell!
