A Cinematic Etymology of Rage from “Jacob’s Ladder” to “The Girl with All the Gifts” (Spoiler Alerts!)

Have you ever watched two seemingly different films and felt that they were eerily like each other? You know there is a connection between these two disparate films, but you just can’t find it.

Pixar even capitalized on this concept and developed it to an art form called “The Pixar Theory,” that is, films that are a part of the same universe, but just occurring at separate times. Their films intentional leave clues that refer to characters or themes in other films to imply that they’re all inter-related and occupying the same universe. Their clever clues came to be known as “Easter eggs” because they were hidden treats that added extra layers to the film-going experience.

Other filmmakers also had their own versions of “Easter eggs,” with the most famous being the appearance of “Star Wars” characters R2-D2 and C-3PO on the wall of hieroglyphs in Steven Spielberg’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

For the film goer who wants to delve deeper into their movie experiences, they’re sure to find even more coincidences as filmmakers pay homage to one another.
