Why Crypto ⛓ ➕ Carbon 🌍

The only way we can prevent catastrophic global warming is to create sustainable systems that remove a century of excess greenhouse gases in our atmosphere while transitioning to clean and renewable energy systems. The only way we can accomplish these twin goals on a global scale is to activate millions of people around the world to find solutions specific to their cultures and capacities. There is no single magic bullet but we technologists have a critical role to play. If we open source carbon data and reward people for verifiable activities that advance our collective understanding, we can educate and arm people everywhere with agency and ownership in the climate change fight. This is the unfulfilled promise of Web3: global coordination and mobilization through the right financial incentives.
What does Carbon + Crypto look like?
*I’m going to refer to all greenhouse gases as carbon for the sake of simplicity
1. All carbon data is stored on-chain
2. Carbon accounting methodologies are open source
3. All carbon related assets from credits to offsets are tokenized using NFT’s (or a new standard)
4. Corporate carbon wallets to house carbon credits, carbon report NFT’s, NetZero certification, etc…
5. IOT devices & oracles capture, store & data feed electricity/emissions data
6. NetZero certifications for corporations are tokenized NFT’s (or a new standard)
7. Direct integrations between carbon accounting providers and carbon marketplaces/sellers/trading platforms across blockchains
