Can This Black Kid be Saved?

Until her black son was nine years old, Bobbi Romano (not her real name) says that Ethan Romano was simple to get along with. “He’s always been a loving child,” she says. “He never got in trouble in school. All the teachers said how much of a help he was.”

Ethan was helpful at home, helping with the cooking and the grocery shopping.

Bobbi and Ethan loved spending time together in nature, too. “He and I are similar in that we love being outdoors — fishing, hiking, hunting [or] anything like that. He was my little sidekick.”
