Great article from Down Under! You’re right about the necessity to move on. It is immaterial whether or not Putin lied about election meddling. Every country around the world pushes their own narrative for whatever partisan reasons. The US does bad stuff they don’t admit, Canada does bad stuff they don’t admit, Russia, Luxembourg, all of them will smile and nod while screwing someone else over. So, what do you do? You stop obsessing and move on with a wary eye on the buggers.
I remember the time after the East Berlin wall fell and soon after, the Russians were our best friends. The airliner being shot down and Crimea aren’t great actions but they have their reasons. Is there continuous hanky-panky in cyberspace? For sure! The damn Chinese are the worst hackers and have been for years. We still do enormous amounts of trade with them and look the other way wrt their human rights abuses.
The world is an imperfect place with very imperfect people with nuclear weapons running it. Having closer communication between those nuclear powers is not a bad thing especially in times of misunderstanding. There is a lot of silly buggery happening in the Med just off Syria between the Russians and NATO forces. If there’s an accident, I would rather Trump and Putin talking as opposed to escalating.
Keep up the writing Caitlan!
