The Ascent 33 | Through Weakness Comes Strength

There are going to be times where you know you need to do something but you don’t feel like doing it.

Be grateful for these moments and then embrace them.

The reason?

It’s during these moments of weakness where discipline is built.

Now I understand, while this may sound good it’s always easier said than done. Sometimes it’s just hard to do the things you know you need to do.

Therefore, the next time you feel like putting something off implement the following process…

Find a reason to get excited about what needs to get done. After all, if you don’t feel like doing something, you’re only going to make things tougher on yourself by trying to do it in a negative state.

So, find a reason to get excited. It’s a must because that initial excitement will create the necessary energy to get you started.

Once you’ve started don’t stop to think about how boring, monotonous or tough the task may be. Doing so will only destroy your momentum.

Instead, focus on the importance of what you’re doing. Think about how it benefits not only you but those around you. Think about “the why?” and the bigger purpose.

Then follow through on your commitment and finish what you started.

Look, you may not always feel motivated to do the things you know you need to do. In fact, many times you won’t.

That’s why it’s important to always remember that discipline is created by fighting through times of weakness. For these are the times where you’re given the greatest opportunity to build strength…

With strength comes disciple and with discipline comes freedom.

The Ascent is a series where I document the experience of building YPE. It’s written from the following perspective: Advice I give to myself based on the lessons learned every day.
