The Ascent 43 | Blame or Control
There’s not a whole lot that we can control in our careers.
However, the one thing we’ll always have control over is how we interpret and then respond.
Case in point, others are going to say and do things that might hurt, upset, frustrate and/or anger us.
Yet they’re not the ones to blame for us feeling the way we do.
We have complete and total control over how we interpret and then respond to the actions of others regardless of the situation.
Sure, it may take less effort and be easier to think that someone else hurt or upset us but it’s not true. Rather it’s our interpretation of what others say and/or do that determines how we feel and ultimately respond.
This is a good. The reason?
Because it means that we’re in control no matter what happens to us.
We may not be able to control the events but we always control how we interpret and then respond to them.
The Ascent is a series where I document the experience of building YPE. It’s written from the following perspective: Advice I give to myself based on the lessons learned every day.
