Nobody’s Heard of You, and That’s a Good Thing

While publishing things to little to no response is disheartening, it becomes a little freeing after a while. And then once people discover you and start reading you or listening to you or “following” you, it’s like magic, because you’ve already honed your voice and practiced your craft in a way.

I wouldn’t want people to read stuff I posted a year ago, anyways. It seems very self-serving and all about “me”, as opposed to a focus on the audience (or “you).

Thanks for this post Jeff! It was definitely eye-opening and I love these posts you do showcasing the dark side of success, or how many famous artists now really struggled back in the day to get their stuff heard and recognized. Fitzgerald’s story is not one I’ve heard before, but it’s quite opening. Thanks for sharing :)
