The GOP opposition to health care, like every other policy they take, is rooted in racism. People believe that gov’t is giving benefits to undeserving POCs. Their voters are so blinded by this zero-sum, racial based view of government that they basically stopped caring about what politicians were actually saying, until it started getting real. The face of the ACA used to be a Black President giving benefits to POCs. Now, it’s the face of a working class white american family and it now has legitimacy.
