What’s up fellow Glintsters! We hope you had fun during the F1 period, but the excitement isn’t over yet! Last Saturday, Glints hosted the Future Series #1, where we taught you how to craft your life’s blueprint by fellow Life Architects from Strategic Alliance.

The event starred three key Life Architect speakers, Jamson, Perry and Selina, and started off with a bang (literally, as the fire alarm was ringing for a while) as Jamson kicked off the event with several activities that participants could do on the spot.

One of the activities that were conducted is a Dream Board activity where participants visualised what they wanted from their lives. What is a Dream Board you ask?

A Dream Board (also known as a vision board), is a way for you to visualise what you want to achieve and what are the things that you want to see in your future. The reason why participants were asked to create a Dream Board is because you can’t create a blueprint to a successful future if you don’t know what you want from your own future.

For instance, if your dream life is to be a value investor like Warren Buffet, then your blueprint would be different from someone whose dream life is to be an entrepreneur like Richard Branson.

So how do you create your own Dream Board?

First of all, you need to visualise where do you see yourself 10, 20 years down the road, or it could even be your ideal retirement. After which, identify some of the things that indicate that you have achieved what you wanted.

Going back to the example of if your dream life is to be like Warren Buffet, some of the indications that you have achieved that would be a certain amount in your bank account, no debts, etc. So on your Dream Board (which can just be a piece of A4 paper), you can cut out relevant images or write down the different indications.

The final step would be to identify what you need to do to get to your dream life, and just do it!

Moving on, Jamson then shared about the concept of the Cash Flow Quadrant from Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad book.

He explained how the business world is made up of 4 different kinds of people. There are those who become an employee, self-employed, business owners or investors. The first step is to identify which part of the Cash-flow Quadrant you are currently at, after which the next step is to identify where you want to be.

In a conservative Asian society like Singapore, we are encouraged to follow the traditional route where we study hard, graduate, and then get a good job. Traditional schooling essentially teaches us to focus on becoming an Employee (E) or high-paid Self-Employed (S) individual such as a lawyer or accountant. However, according to the quadrant, financial freedom can’t be found in those two quadrants. So this is the time to rethink and ask yourself if financial freedom is something that you really want. So our question now is which one are you?

Finally, the session ended off with a Q&A session where attendees could ask them more about what they do and how they have achieved their ideal life. In this segment, Perry shared how he is on his way to financial freedom by taking charge of his life and deviating from a path that most people would choose.

But that’s not the end of it. For those of you who have read or heard about Robert Kiyosaki and his book, ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’, there will be an upcoming activity where you get a chance to play the Cash Flow Game. Learn how to get out of the rat race, and start owning your life the way you want it.

P.s, the tea buffet was awesome.
