Actual liberals versus actual conservatives. I know I have a slanted perspective on this, but what I perceive is a lot of angry liberal folks seeing the news and talking about it and feeling absolutely flabbergasted that the Trump administration is getting away with lying and doing all kinds of immoral and deplorable things, while the conservatives (particularly the enthusiastic Trump supporters) seem to have absolutely no interest in checking the facts or engaging in a real dialogue with the liberals who are so frustrated and lost. So the division is there, but it is not due to inherent ability or aptitude, but instead is due to effort.
The idea of the “liberal elite” commonly talked about by conservatives. These are, supposedly, ivy-league stuffed-shirts who sit around listening to smooth jazz and laughing at the commoners for their intense stupidity. This is the caricature that Trump effectively used to get a lot of the lower-educated and/or lower income folks to his side, painting both career politicians and the media as elitist and overly-liberal.
Trump’s administration versus the populace. Trump and his circle have shown that they don’t care much about the information that the common folk have access to and how it does or does not support the positions and actions they promote. It seems as though they think they are able to understand something that the average voter just can’t comprehend. Or perhaps it is that the opinions of the average voter just don’t matter to them, regardless of how much they are actually able to comprehend.
