Bunny Knights is an OG Tezos gaming project featuring pixel art bunnies used for PvP battles.

The first-generation mint for the game, featuring 500 NFT bunnies, sold out over the course of a few months and motivated the community to get excited about the game. A second mint, featuring 2000 second generation bunnies, has also sold out.

Initially created as part of the Hic et Nunc scene in the early days of Tezos art, Bunny Knights is continuing to build towards their gameplay beta launch.

What are Bunny Knights?

When a player buys a Bunny Knights NFT, they are getting more than just a PFP. Bunny NFT holders get exclusive access to early builds of the game.

Each BK is a unique 1/1 NFT, since no two have the same combination of traits. However there are some rarer traits and even unique traits that only appear on one bunny. Bunnies with unique traits get in-game boosts, although the exact nature of these boosts has not yet been revealed.

The rarest classes are Mystic-Knight (only 4 exist) and Dark-Knight (only 5 exist). The other classes have anywhere from 12 to 45 in existence, with a few examples being the Mage, the Barbarian, and the Archer.

Each class has an affiliation: Good, neutral, or evil. It is unclear how these affiliations will impact the game.

Other NFTs in Bunny Knight

There is one other category of NFTs that currently exists in the game. These are categorized as items.

You can mint limited edition loot boxes with three random items in them, called Bunny Chests, as long as supplies last. As of this writing there are a bit more than 1000 chests still available at a primary sale price of 30 XTZ.

The website says that items will “unlock future services on legendary bunnies” while others will enhance all bunnies. Some items will be pure collectables with no in-game utility.

Some examples of items include Bunny Coin (a historical currency in the lore of the game), Carrot (“permanently adds 10 carrots to a bunny”), and Medium XP Potion (“permanently adds 250 XP to a bunny.”)

Gameplay

Bunny Knights plans to offer a “frantic PvP experience” within a mystical and cheerful pixel art world. The initial screenshots and mock-ups of battles that are available show a rudimentary turn-based RPG battle system.

Alpha tests of a potential battle system for the game took place in 2021 with holders of generation 1 bunnies.

The game roadmap lists the beta test as one of the next gameplay-related milestones. Specifically, it defines the beta playtest milestone as “a polished version is finished and ready to be played for all the bunny collectors.”

Who is Building Bunny Knights?

The Bunny Knights team is made up of three people. Each one covers a key role of the game’s production process.

Bruno Formagio is the graphic designer, bringing a decade of experience with various design companies. Joe Salomon is the developer and self-described “platform technician” for Bunny Knights. Lastly, Brandon Langston is the community manager, best known for his prolific tweeting under the TezosGaming handle.

The Future of Bunny Knight

Bunny Knights’ development has been slow and steady for a few years now. What does the future hold?

The team has been working quietly ever since last 2021’s alpha test. There have not been a lot of public updates in that time, with the only content mostly being tweets of already existing bunny knights and lore.

The launch of a new website in May 2022 helped to bring some positive attention back to the game. The website looks sharp and offers some new visuals as well as updated information on new releases. Specifically, the website says that a second alpha test will be occurring for Bunny holders in Q3 2022.

Bunny Knight has a lot of cultural legitimacy as a project that began during the old school Hic en Nunc days of Tezos. They’ve also kept the mint relatively low with only 2500 total avatar NFTs available for this project. There’s a lot of potential for this project to be a big part of Tezos’s gaming scene for years to come.
