Next year is an exciting Olympic year to be held in Tokyo, Japan. Do you know how many countries are attending the Olympics? A group of creators in Japan started a portal website called “World Flags” which will introduce each attending country’s national flag with a samurai anime character!

This project was started to support the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by featuring and respecting attending nationals and drawing a social awareness in a unique way. There is no affiliation between the website and the Japanese government or the Olympic committee. Countries are categorized by continent/region including Asia [30] , Africa [47], America [33], Europe [44], Middle East [14] and Oceania [13] and the total 181 of them are listed. Not all nationals have samurai anime characters but they are looking for collaborators who can contribute to their art collection. Tremendous efforts are already being made and their art work is just remarkable.

I am from Canada which has been characterized as a “Hunter with Maple Leaf”. His name is “Keanu” and his hobby is ice skating. So appropriate and nicely done!

Canada: Keanu

U.S.: Dustin

UK: William

Japan: Kamamoto

If you are looking for a specific country, which is a part of international allies or forum such as the EU or G8, the more likely you will be able to find it with a samurai character. So you want to find your country page? Here is how you can find out.

  1. Go to the World Flags continent or region website.
    i.e. If Asia, https://world-flags.org/asia
  2. Add your country name to the URL with .html extension.
    i.e. If Japan, https://world-flags.org/category/asia/japan.html
