Crypto In Mainstream Media

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies have been appearing in mainstream media more and more throughout the years. Whether it be in TV Shows, Music, or Film, cryptocurrency pops up more often, and it’s not looking like it’s slowing down anytime soon. Here are some of our favorite mentions of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies:

The Simpsons (2013)

Crypto’s first appearance in the big leagues, appearing in The Simpsons episode “Yellow Subterfuge”. Lisa Simpsons asks Krusty the Clown if he’s broke, to which he responds, “Yeah, all it takes is some bad luck at the ponies, words luck in the bitcoin markets, and heavy investments in a high-end bookmark company.”

Silicon Valley (2014)

In the hit HBO show Silicon Valley, Jared questions if Gilfoyle is in the United States illegally. In response to this, Gilfoyle asks for his paychecks to be made out in “cash… or bitcoin”

In later seasons of the show, the Pied Piper team even try to launch their own ICO.

Marvel: Hunt For Wolverine (2014)

In this issue of Marvel Comics: Hunt For Wolverine, a character asks, “Don’t you need a large briefcase of unmarked bills or something?” To which the other responds, “All payments are made in cryptocurrency.”

The Simpsons (2014)

Bitcoin makes another appearance in The Simpsons. This time on a billboard with James Corky Jones that reads: “Send me your lunch money online! Accepting Bitcoin.”

Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)

Bitcoin makes it onto the big screen in Horrible Bosses 2. Jamie Foxx’s character, (Motherf**ker Jones) uses Bitcoin to make an “untraceable” purchase for prepaid cellphones.

Dope (2014)

Bitcoin is a big part of this 2015 hit comedy on and off the screen. Malcolm states in the beginning of the film that he just “read that money as we know it is dead.” He then predicts people will only use Bitcoin soon. The film is also the first film to accept Bitcoin as payments for tickets.

Mr. Robot (2015)

Bitcoin is called “e-coins” in the Mr. Robot universe. This award-winning TV Show consistently uses cryptocurrencies as an element in its script.

Family Guy (2016)

Lois Griffin discusses the future of the Griffin family by referencing Bitcoin: “We’ve really got to figure out a better way to budget for this family’s future. Bitcoin. I don’t know.”

Billions (2018)

In the popular finance drama Billions, Bobby Axelrod passes the popular Ledger Nano S and says, “One million dollars straight in crypto, in cold storage.”

Big Bank (2018)

Big Sean’s hit single Big Bank featuring 2 Chainz, Nicky Minaj and YG: “I might buy her red bottoms with the crypto / Three coins, that’ll pay your whole semester / But, you gotta ride it better than a Tesla.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

In the hit Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp, Sonny Burch (played by Walter Goggins) says to the Wasp in the opening scene, “The future is not A.I., or cryptocurrencies. But quantum computing.”

Bitcoin (2018)

Following a series of many other rappers, Soulja Boy comes back after a hiatus with a song simply named Bitcoin. The song kicks off with: “Man this is going crazy this cryptocurrency man. I made 100 racks off of Bitcoin.”
