TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK AS OF 2018

To fully understand the need for a decentralized telecommunications network, we must first explore the main problems with the current set up.

Currently, the services provided by a cellular network: (1) Voice (2) Data (3) SMS are centralized by global, monopolistic telecommunication companies. These companies include, but are not limited to: Verizon, AT&T, and Rogers. The duopoly in the United States, in particular, amongst Verizon and AT&T is responsible for controlling nearly 65% of the U.S. wireless market; which is one of the reasons why consumers are left with expensive monthly phone bills.

MAIN PROBLEMS CREATED BY CENTRALIZATION:

High monthly phone bills — Average monthly bill in the U.S. is between $120-$148

Expensive data packages — Average US phone user pays $35 — $55 for the data alone

Lack of security — Just recently hackers stole data from up to 100,000 Bell Canada customers. This wasn’t a unique case either. In fact, it was the second security breach in just the last 8 months.

More dropped calls — Recent studies show that not only are users suffering from more dropped calls, but telecom operators may also be masking these dropped calls and charging the user.

Collusion — Whether it’s the Big 2 in the U.S. or the Big 3 in Canada — phone companies have no incentive to lower prices. Instead, it’s in their best interests to raise prices each year.

Lack of governance

BlockTel’s Model of DECENTRALIZATION

A free market, decentralized, cellular network not only overcomes the traditional problems of the telecommunications industry such as security breaches, content distribution and billing, but it also puts the power in the hands of the people and uses blockchain solutions to provide better service at a fraction of the current cost. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

In fact, the most exciting part of BlockTel’s decentralized cellular network is it allows users to monetize their location, which means instead of having to pay telecommunication companies, users like you and I get to share in the profits we help create.

And that’s not it. Lets have a look at the rest of Benefits offered by BlockTel and why the users should switch over to BlockTel.

BENEFITS

There are four main reasons why users will use BlockTel instead of current carriers:

  1. Lower fees
  2. Ability to monetize location
  3. Secure, Private, & Anonymous Network
  4. Universal Network

Lower fees

Users, node operators, and BLKT token holders will govern how prices for calling, messaging, and data usage are set via a voting power structure (Ex. 10 tokens gets you 10 votes). As a result, fees will be determined based on a free market and economical uptime costs in certain areas of the world, which will significantly be lower than current telecom carriers pricing. For instance, fees in New York will likely be higher than Vancouver just because variable costs such as electricity, Wi-Fi, and general maintenance costs of running a node will be higher in that area.

Ability to monetize location

Node operators will be able to earn BLKT tokens for contributing resources such as the BMB (cell antenna), Wi-Fi, and electricity to the network. Much like Bitcoin mining, nodes will be able to earn a passive income with zero to minimal effort per day. As a result, profits will be transferred from major telecom companies to regular everyday people; thus, opening a wealth of business models for users.

Secure, Private, & Anonymous Network

All mobile functions have the ability to be completely anonymous meaning that phone calls, text messages, and 5G data cannot be tracked to one single person. This is made possible by cryptography and the blockchain, which does not require a user to input any personal information. The only way users will be able to interact with one another on the BlockTel network is if they know their wallet address (Ex. 0x32Be343B94f8601Ee278FDCBD88) and/or user ID (Ex. PHIL415). As a result, all token transfers will be secured by the Ethereum network.

The network privacy features are centered around the idea that there is no central party controlling incoming and outgoing mobile functions. Since BlockTel is an island network, it will have dozens of nodes routing calls, messages, & data to only participants within the BlockTel network. This eliminates any central point of failure, and makes it virtually impossible to track down the identity of a single caller.

Universal Network

A single user powered distributed network across the globe will eliminate cartel like telecom service providers, and push globalization to the next level. For example, a universal telecom network will make it easier for end users to communicate across borders because they will not have to pay huge fees on long distance calls especially in no public Wi-Fi zones. Also, having one network across the globe with millions of contributors will increase brand awareness, and strengthen trust within the decentralized network.

At full scale, travelling to different parts of the world will become easier as users will not need to pay extremely high travel fees, or switch mobile carriers. For instance, with a borderless network, there will be no need to switch SIM cards, no roaming charges, and no delays when travelling. In fact, we believe our initial user base will be digital nomads who travel daily and work remotely and would greatly benefit from a low fee, decentralized network.

Lets just say it the way it is; BlockTel is about to restart the Telecommunications Industry!
