Meet Inscriber — the Bitcoin NFT minting tool from BlockyDevs!
From the previous article, you had the opportunity to learn what the process of NFT creation looks like on networks other than Bitcoin. You also learned about the popular minting types that authors use to reach a wide audience with their collections. You are in for a surprise in this article.

Minting Bitcoin Ordinals — step-by-step instructions
Go to https://ordinalsview.com/ and click on the button in the upper left corner. You will be shown the option to enter the “Inscriber” tab.
1.Before you start the whole process, create your Bitcoin wallet. You can use, among others, the BitcoinCore, HiroWallet, Sparrow Wallet, or Coinbase.
2.Sign up and follow the prompts to verify your identity.
3.After configuring your account, go to the “Receive” section of your wallet. You now have the option to create a Bitcoin receiving address. Copy and paste it into the appropriate field in the Inscriber form when it appears.
4.Go to the form page and upload a file (image, video, audio, text) no larger than 350 KB. By pointing at an image, you can see a preview by clicking on the magnifier and decide if the quality (compression ratio) is suitable. You can compress the file, the transaction fee will also change with the movements of the slider.
5.Enter the Bitcoin wallet address where you will receive your Ordinal.
6.Now select the transaction fee rate — (low, medium, or custom). A higher rate means quicker processing. Choosing a low transaction fee may mean that it gets stuck in the mempool and is not processed by miners. Then the creation of Ordinals may be delayed or canceled.
We recommend selecting at least a low or medium fee rate (proposed by us). After loading the image and selecting the transaction fee, we will calculate the total amount of BTC/Satoshis you will pay for the transaction.
*Satoshi per virtual byte (sat/vB) is a unit used to measure the fee rate for Bitcoin transactions. When we send a Bitcoin transaction with your Ordinal, we include a fee to incentivize miners to include your transaction in the next block they mine.
Completing Ordinal metadata
Next, you can associate some metadata with your Ordinal. That is an optional step.
Click the “Add metadata” button in the main form. This will open a modal window with the following fields — “Name”, “Creator”, “Ordinal type’, “Author’s Address”. Clicking on the purple fields where possible will make the data appear automatically.
Fill in data such as “Properties”, “Stats”, “Colors”, “Dates”, “Date Times”, “Flags”, “Percentages”, Attributes”, “Collections name”, Collection description”, “Signature”, “Total Supply”, “Ordinal Index”, “Localization URL”, “Locales”, “Default Locale”.
What should be entered in the fields?
Name: enter the name that identifies this Ordinal.
Creator: enter the name(s) of the artist(s) who created the resource. Separate multiple names with commas (,).
Ordination type: this field is optional and specifies the type of ordination (e.g., PFP, BEP-20). You can click on the purple text PFP or BEP-20 to automatically fill in the input.
Author address: enter the Bitcoin wallet address of the Ordinal author. You can click on the “Use value from Ordinal wallet address” label to automatically fill this field with the value from the Ordinal wallet address field of the main form.
Properties: click the “Add Properties” button and fill in the name and value fields for each property you want to add.
Statistics: click the “Add Statistics” button and fill in the name, value (number), and maximum value (number) fields for each statistic you want to add. For example, “edit” with a value of “1” and a maximum value of “6”.
Colors: click on the “Add color” button and fill in the name and select a color using the color selector.
Dates: click on the “Add date” button and fill in the name and date input field with the date picker.
Date times: follow the same steps as for dates, but enter the time in addition to the date.
Flags: click on the “Add flag” button and fill in the name and toggle the checkbox for each flag you want to add.
Percentages: enter the percentage value (as an integer).
Attributes: follow the same process as for properties.
Description: type a description using markdown syntax.
Collection data: make sure you follow the instructions for the “Signature” field to calculate it correctly.
“How can I calculate this signature?”: Press “Click here” under the “How can I calculate this signature?” section to automatically calculate your signature using the Hiro wallet.
Localization URI — insert the file address in the format indicated in the Inscriber.
Default locale — two-letter language code identifying default language for NFT specification.
Locales — two-letter language code identifying other localized metadata specifications for this NFT.
After filling in all the necessary fields, click the “Save” button to save the metadata.
Click “Proceed to payment” After submitting the form, you will see your Bitcoin wallet address and the amount to be sent. You will need to transfer the exact amount of Bitcoin to the address provided.
After confirming the transaction, your Ordinal will be entered and sent to the Bitcoin wallet address.
* The size of the metadata will be added to the file size when checking the limits.
