Casual drinking.

Hi, my name is Caitlin and I really like beer. More specifically craft beer & even more specific my favourite is pale ales! *just in case we meet in person & you want to buy me a drink*

But, this post is about drinking and work. More precisely drinking and the events industry.

Events is one where ‘drinks’ are a big part of the industry.

Crew celebrations after creating and running events are very common, associations tend to hold networking events in the evenings. Showcase events are also evening based. Then you have award ceremonies, client meetings, after work drinks, even industry trade shows have bars (and those events close their doors at 6pm)

Actually, I don’t think this is unique to events – but my experience is in this industry so I’m not going to try and talk for others.

Now there is nothing wrong with this – personally I’ve made a lot of friends in the industry and getting to meet them in more social settings is one of the reasons we’ve become friends – but I’m curious if this culture alienates people who don’t drink?

Does not being able to join in fully to the social side of work impact your relationship with colleagues and peers?
