AN UPDATE FROM SIMON BENSON, CTO.
Today, Bloktopia CTO Simon Benson, has released news on how work is progressing versus the Q2 Product Roadmap.
Simon said: “It has been a hugely productive quarter, definitely the most progressive that we have had to date. And we are really pleased with where we have got to.
Undoubtedly the two major milestones for Q2 are the land sale, and moving the Bloktopia metaverse onto the Unity Engine URP stack to enable VR compatibility — working towards our VR Alpha version of Bloktopia.
As mentioned in my AMA in April, we moved the Land Sale project in house a couple of months ago, and we gave ourselves a very short timeline to deliver something which has several layers of complexity. The end result has been a great success. We are in our second stage of sales ‘Exodus’ and across staking, JOBEs and the land sale we have locked 100s of million of $BLOK up. 50% of everything we sell through the Land Sale is set to be burnt, as per our intention from day one, so we have now given a key utility and real value to the $BLOK token for the first time.
The Land Sale project has drained quite a lot of capacity, certainly more than anticipated. Clarification and changes are always needed when a new team picks up a project mid-way. We are pioneering in an uncharted territory, which means adapting constantly to the market, and different technologies is crucial. But work has still been progressing well from a Unity perspective too. Our Roadmap will always remain flexible to allow us to work in an agile manner. One example being that a few weeks ago, we decided to pull forward a few tasks set for later in the year. Avatar integration has been big for us, along with modular store capability, as both will really bring to life the VR version of Bloktopia. We’ve had lots of show and tells in the office and can’t wait to show some live examples soon.
In developing a metaverse, quality assurance is key. In its simplistic form, this means that we are systematically checking to see whether development is meeting specified requirements. It sounds simple, but again due to the layers of complexity involved across the cutting edge technology that we are using, we need to ensure that everything meets our very high standards before we move onto the next project. Again this can take time, but means we will be much more confident in the live product, ahead of its launch. We also believe in working in collaboration with our user base to create the product they love. We are currently making lots of plans on how to do this, including having a lot more focus on product and community.
We have also decided to have a change of focus across all 21 levels. Our new Head of Product is currently working on updating the Bloktopia product vision and strategy with bigger and bolder ideas, while making sure it meets market demand, gives values to users, and is feasible. We’ll be sharing this soon. We will also be involving our community on it’s evolvement. As we have always said, the beauty of a metaverse is that it can be whatever we collectively want it to be.
We will continue to work in an agile manner, and will be adapting and optimising our roadmap continuously. This is a good thing , and will include the positive impact of how we are expanding our team rapidly, and plan to continue to do so.
We’ll be sharing some visuals on development from next week. It’s important to remember that we want to show progress, so not everything will look as clean and polished as our Alpha was. A lot of the graphics and stylistic choices aren’t there yet, but they are the cherry on top of the cake, once we have a lot of the fundamentals in place.
There are tons of positive changes that are in the works at the moment: more dev updates, an updated roadmap, updated product vision, bigger team (meet the team opportunity), product team, art team, as well as a renewed focus on community. We will be holding more developer updates from this point and will be sharing videos and show and tells too, to make sure that the community is fully aware of our progress at all times.
