If a product is labelled as organic, the food product must be free from any kind of artificial food additives such as coloring, monosodium glutamate or MSG, sweeteners, preservatives or flavoring.

There are several studies indicating that organic foods usually have higher levels of antioxidants and micronutrients including Vitamin C, zinc and iron. Apart from this, another study has shown that the anti-oxidants in such products are higher around 69%. Organically grown corn and berries have roughly around 58% more antioxidants and 52% higher vitamin C content. Also, according to one study, by replacing the regular vegetables and fruits with organic fruits and vegetables can add extra anti-oxidants in the diet. These products are rich in anti-oxidants as they create higher levels of natural ones due to the lack of chemicals.

Does organic food really make a difference?

There are several studies indicating that organic foods and products contain higher levels of nutrients as compared to the regular products. On an average, organic fruits and vegetables contain 69% higher levels of flavnones, 50% more flavanols and 51% more anthocyanins. Apart from this, organic products are known to have almost zero level of harmful chemicals including pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers.

Some other benefits of organic products are as follows:-

· Decrease the toxic burden: Regular consumption of organic products decrease the level of toxic chemicals in our body. Such harmful metals and chemicals usually enter the food chain through fertilizers and pesticides that are frequently used in agriculture. When you start the consumption of organic food, the body is detoxified from all such elements.

· Good for the earth: Organic farming has a positive impact on the soil as well because no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used during the process. In the process of organic farming, these chemicals are substituted by manure or compost.
