Representatives of the social network Facebook admitted that they thoroughly study the blockchain for almost a year and they will soon create their own crypto currency so that Facebook users can make electronic payments within the platform, in this case — through the Marketplace trading platform.
Today, virtual currency can easily replace bankcards and cash, so the Facebook team decided to move in this direction.
By the way, this is not the first attempt by Facebook to create its own currency. In 2009, the company already launched Facebook Credits, which was mostly used to buy games. At that time, games were very popular. Nevertheless, the Facebook Credits project did not ”catch on” and two years later it was closed.

At the international summit in February in Los Angeles, Facebook’s Vice President of Messaging Products and blockchain team leader David Marcus said that today payments using crypto-currencies are not affordable for everyone, so the company will actively address this issue.
“Like many other companies, Facebook is studying the ways to use blockchain technology”, a Facebook representative said. “Our team is exploring many different applications to create a really good and useful product”.
