From the earliest Zeng Fanzhi’s paintings are marked by their emotional characteristic, the artist’s intuitive psychological sense, and his fastidiously graduated expressionist technique. Moving to Peking within the early Nineties, Zeng’s art displayed an instantaneous shift, responding to his immersion in a very additional superficial atmosphere, his seminal Mask series displaying the tensions between the artist’s dominant existential considerations associate degreed an ironic treatment of the pompousness and vanity inherent to his new up to date urban life
