5 favorites for May 5th and every other day of the year. In honor of Maya, I’ve loved finding the best Mexican food blogs serving you authentic Mexican fare. I’ve always liked this holiday since, in my hometown of New York City, May 5th signifies the unmistakable beginning of spring. What could be better than the lovely weather, Mexican food, and margaritas?

However, I’ve noticed over the past few years how exclusively and through our own lens we Americans prefer to observe holidays like Maya and Lunar. Nachos for Maya, I suppose? Friends, we can do better! Without a doubt, many people from Mexico agree that nachos are tasty, yet they are not traditionally considered to be Mexican food.

Every time you have a hankering for real, home-cooked Mexican food, I hope you’ll think about learning more about authentic Mexican cooking by perusing the recipes from a few of the top authentic Mexican food bloggers, who all incorporate their unique backgrounds, interests, and personal experiences into their dishes.

La Cocina de Leslie

Leslie of La Cocina de Leslie was born and raised in California, where she ate the food of her Sonoran and Chihuahuan grandparents. She, therefore, assumed she had the basics of Mexican cooking down, at least until she went to the little Mexican town where her husband was raised. Leslie has lived there for more than 16 years and, among other things, blogs about her favorite traditional, regional, and modern Mexican cuisine.

We still enjoy Leslie’s tostadas, which were included in our collection of Mexican dinner dishes other than tacos. I also want to express my gratitude to Leslie for introducing me to a Mexican sausage I had never had before in her recipe for Longaniza Pineapple Tacos, which was included in one of our weekly menu plans. My next choice is between her recipes for Camarones a la Mexicana or Garlic Shrimp. I must make decisions.

Muy Bueno

Muy Bueno and Yvette’s food has long been a favorite of mine. Her recipes are not only delicious but also heartfelt. The native Texan began cooking seriously because she understood that if she didn’t, her mother’s and grandmother’s cultural traditions, which had been passed down to her, would be lost. Is there a more lovely justification for sharing your family’s recipes?

Every bite of Yvette’s food reflects her love of family, Mexican cuisine, and culture — and not only because she occasionally collaborates on dishes with her mother. In our 2016 collection of Cinco de Mayo recipes, Yvette’s Huevos Rancheros with Chorizo Refried Black Beans was highlighted. This year, I’m considering making Slow Cooker Pork Tinga Flautas (seen at the top of the page) and, of course, these stunning Prickly Pear Margaritas.

Pati’s Mexican Table

Pati Jinich is a renowned authority on Mexican cuisine. The host of the Emmy and James Beard award-nominated PBS program Pati’s Mexican Table, who was born and reared in Mexico, gave up a job as a political analyst to devote herself to Mexican cooking. This woman has accomplished everything, including teaching friends how to cook Mexican food, getting a television series, and writing cookbooks. You can tell from her extensive website that she has eaten and prepared everything as well.

Mexico in My Kitchen

Mely Martinez presents regional traditional home-style dishes on her blog, Mexico in My Kitchen. She focuses on the cuisines of the regions in her native country where she has resided, and fortunately for us, there are many of them: there are a total of 27 locations, giving us a taste of many different parts of the nation. The teacher developed her passion for cooking while working on a farm with her grandparents, where she also assisted with jobs like grinding corn to produce masa for the most delectably fresh corn tortillas ever. I desire one.
