My First Floatation Therapy Experience
I recently took a trip to The Float Spot in Frisco, TX. I heard about floatation therapy while rereading Tim Ferris’ book the Tool of Titans. In the book while talking to one of the guests they discuss floatation therapy and its benefits. I took a break from reading and immediately booked a session.

Let me describe floatation therapy for those who have no idea what it is. Floatation therapy is the act of utilizing a “floatation tank” also known as a “sensory deprivation chamber.” It is most often used as a method for relaxation and to boost creativity. It can allow one to engage in a deep meditative state, regardless of meditation experience. The tank is soundproof, filled with 300 gallons of water precisely heated to between 92 and 93 degrees, super satured with 1100 pounds of medical grade Epson Salts.
I scheduled the session for Sunday, July 23, 2017. Upon walking into the room they explain the pod, its features and give you simple instructions. The instructions were to get in the shower before getting in the pod. You are able to leave the pod door open or closed. Background music is optional. I used some version of delta waves (supposedly good for brain activity) for half of the session, and for half it was complete silence.
After I got out of the shower I proceeded to enter the pod. To be honest, I was skeptical on the floating thing so the first 10 seconds I was apprehensive about actually being able to float. I immediately get in and close the pod behind me, hit the light switch, and lay back. I floated instantaneously. It’s definitely a feeling that I don’t see duplicated anywhere. You are floating on top of skin temperature salt water with no sound and complete darkness. I completed a 30 minute session, they offer 1 hour, or 2 hour sessions as well. I did the 30 minute session to make sure that I could handle it mentally.
It was the most relaxing thing that I have done in a while. I usually meditate and read daily so I am in my head a lot. Floatation therapy allowed me to get in my head for an extended amount of time. I thought about potential problems that I was dealing with, I thought about people, I thought about business solutions, new business ideas, and also how to improve my current businesses among other things. I recommend anyone to try out Floatation therapy I am going to be doing a session at least once every 2 weeks.
I came away from the experience feeling refreshed and also with a jolt of creativity. I immediately went home and started working on things. I am writing this close to 5 days after the experience. I can still feel the effects of the session, I am a lot calmer and I also feel that I can deal with anything. Nothing currently has the ability to stress me out. It’s worth it for any individual reading this to actually try the chamber out for at least one session to see how they feel. It’s fairly cheap, a 30 minute session was $40 which is inexpensive for piece of mind. According to descriptions, the last time most individuals have experienced this feeling was in the womb. Go check it out at your local facility or business.
Also, a BIG thanks to The Float Spot in Frisco, TX for having a dope facility and also great individuals working there who thoroughly describe the floatation therapy process.
