When a foot or ankle injury occurs, basic daily tasks can become very difficult or even impossible to complete. When our mobility is limited, we need helpful tools that allow us to continue working and, most importantly, playing. It is upsetting to feel excluded from activities because of an injury, but fear not; we have a few options for getting around in spite of a leg injury. Crutches, wheelchairs, and all-terrain knee scooters are all tools that can help injured individuals stay involved and independent during the healing process.

Crutches are a common tool used to take all weight off of the injured leg in a standing position. They allow a person to access most places because stairs can still be used and the crutches do not take up much space. Crutches can be quite uncomfortable for people because it takes some time for the underarms to adapt to constant pressure from carrying the weight of the injured leg. Backpacks are usually the best vessel for carrying items when using crutches, so ladies, you might need to leave your cute new shoulder bag at home.

Another option for mobility impaired individuals to travel from point A to point B is a wheelchair. Wheelchairs are comfortable but can be bulky, expensive, and inconvenient. ADA handicap ramps are required for a wheelchair to access businesses and any upper level outside. Wheelchairs are not great on surfaces other than pavement either. It’s difficult to get around on grass, gravel, or dirt without a friend to help push you along. Another important thing to consider about wheelchairs is that you move around below the eye level of other people which can be frustrating if others are insensitive and aren’t aware of your presence or unwilling to get on your level to speak to you.

After some research and thought, it seems that the all-terrain knee scooter is the best option for someone with a foot or ankle injury. It’s in the name “all-terrain” that these scooters can be used on streets, grass, dirt, gravel, anywhere! Knee scooters have a comfortable padding that you rest your knee on while you scoot with your uninjured leg in a standing position. The handlebars have brakes for safe speed control and you can put a basket on the front for all of your things, including your cute new purse! Another beneficial trait about these scooters is their versatility. You can lock the scooter into place and use the knee pad as a seat when you go out to eat with friends. You can rock your awesome outfit without getting run marks in the underarms from crutches or get wrinkles from sitting in a wheelchair

all day. Knee scooters can even be a conversation starter. They look more like something you would choose to travel with regardless of an injury. Ultimately, the all-terrain knee scooter checks off most of the boxes in terms of convenience when it comes to mobility aid devices. Go out and show off with your convenient and fun knee scooter!
