I disagree. Like it or not your dad is a public figure. His presence at a rally is not the same as if you or I went there. People will assume he is there in support unless he specifically says otherwise. A public presence is a tool and public figures use it carelessly at their peril. Publicly attending a rally of a controversial national figure is making a statement whether he wants it to or not. His prevaricating non-explanation is either disingenuous or naive. It would have been better to just come out as a Republican and say you are figuring out which one is most consistent with your views. I bet he was deliberately trying not to alienate his more liberal fans. Sort of like a politician…
