We’re in agreement. I posted this on FB August 10th:

I don’t normally review or endorse films, but I’m going to make an exception in this case. If you can see “Eighth Grade,” do so. You’ll be glad you did and I’m afraid this gem is going to be widely overlooked. It’s *SO* amazingly well written and well acted. Whatever your age or gender, you’ll remember and identify with the overwhelming awkwardness and roller-coaster emotions from that phase of life. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. You’ll also empathize with the poor dad, criticized for everything he does, and literally for nothing at all. So realistic! What really put it over the top for me were the main character’s vlog posts. They are profound beyond her years (and probably mine, too), but so brilliantly written as to still seem plausibly to emanate from the brain of a 13-year-old girl. I don’t know how they pulled this off, but they did. 98% Fresh rating on, and deservedly so.
