I’m sick of my smartphone

I’ve been thinking of getting rid of my smartphone for a while now, moreover it has been a recurrent issue of mine for the past 5 years. I’m spending way too much time on it, I’m sure you all experienced this phenomenon; you spend your days at the office on your computer, then you go home, you are probably using your smartphone on your commuter time; At home you end up on your computer/tablet and even in your bed you start thinking about something out of context like what is the weight of an elephant or whats the story about the french revolution ( true story ) and end up reading wikipedia for half an hour. That’s not all, you follow a link which lead to another “et voila”, its midnight and you spend 2 hours on your phone screen.

Did you know that In the United States, people spend an average of 7.4 hours every day looking at screens. That breaks down to 147 minutes spent watching TV, 103 minutes in front of a computer, 151 minutes on a smartphones and 43 minutes with a tablet and I’m pretty sure these numbers doesn’t include the time at work; we basically spend our time sleeping, or in a front of a screen.

I ain’t no storyteller but I remember when I was young just laying on the grass watching the clouds was a pretty amazing experience, just letting your spirit/soul wandered gave you an incredible feeling. Now I’m pretty sure there is an app for that.

What my brain do my smartphone can do it BETTER (sic)

We use our phone for going somewhere( Hello Gmap), decide where to eat (Hi Yelp), sending YO’s and many other stuff. For everything we need, our brain just need to memorize where is the app or ask google. To make it clear our brain start to become a lazy bastard; but wait, we notice it and there is an app ( or several) to solve this issue , we go soft in the head but we have a solution. That’s our world, this situation happen everywhere, we pollute but we have a solution to depollute after the damage is done. Increíble take a look a this new app which solve all maths equations just by using the camera and instantly ! Why bother to learn how to solve a linear equation involving one unknown when your smartphone can do it. Why the heck wasting time to eat when you can swallow a pill. This is disgusting.

You probably got it, I dont feel comfortable with using my smartphone all the time at all. I even think this is not good for us.

I have bought an iPhone almost on day One for the crazy amount of 700€. I kept it one week before realizing it was too much. Took too much place in my pocket, I spent way too much time on it and it cost way too much. For now I’m happy with my blackberry bold 9900. The small screen discourages me to spend too much time on it except if its very urgent.

Keep posted
