Augmented reality feature is one of the most advanced components of BoatPilot. It is designed to make sailing safe and easy, and this technology already proved to be quite useful in marine navigation. For instance, sailing in the dark is a common situation where AR is indispensable.
As for the way it works, the AR feature will receive data gathered by BoatGod hardware module. The module collects all sensor readings, which are represented as a visual image. This way the system provides advanced navigation and control capabilities.
The key to AR function operation is its operation in tandem with other components of the system. Working together all parts of BoatPilot allow skippers to concentrate directly on controlling the yacht and will help to greatly minimize navigation risks and raise the safety of waterways.
During BoatPilot development we decided that our system will require unique components. There are no suitable analogues to these system parts on the market, so our team had to develop our own solutions. As the result, these components can function as part of our system, or as a ready-made solutions by other companies — marine navigation manufacturers or marine charts aggregators.
We believe that the components that we developed will affect not only the end-users of marine navigation systems, but also navigation equipment manufacturers! Here is the list of BoatPilot’s unique components:
BoatPilot ecosystem also includes hardware component. This component is the innovative wireless hardware module called BoatGod, that is designed to work with the vessel’s different systems via NMEA standard. The aim of this module is to gather geo-data that will be used to update marine charts used in BoatPilot navigator.
We’ve foreseen the possibility to install additional sensors to improve the amount and quality of collected data. As for the module itself, it is easy to install and does not require any special knowledge. The data gathered by BoatGod is transferred via Wi-Fi.
BoatGod allows NAVY token geo-mining. In order…
BoatPilot strives to become the number one company in yachting! This challenge is not easy, so let’s consider the current situation on the different regions of the market.
Yachting is one of the most rapidly growing markets in the world in general, but every region has its own growth conditions. Thus, according to forecasts, Asia Pacific will grow 43% by 2020. In monetary terms, it means an increase from $265 million in 2016 to $308 million in 2020. High rate of economic development explains the growth of yachting in this region.
However, not every region grows that fast. North American…
Mobile device compatibility still remains one of the most actual issues for modern navigation systems. Databases shall be minimized in the most effective way due to mobile devices having limited RAM and computing capabilities. The other limiting factor is the database accessing speed, as it requires storage with random reading capabilities to work correctly.
PostGIS is used by the most navigation systems, it is the most popular database extender available on the market. This is a module for the PostgreSQL object-relational database. However, it has one major drawback: it cannot be used on mobile devices. Users have to use the…
One of the main parts of BoatPilot project is tokenization. We introduced NAVY token as means of raising funds for further development and marketing. The token was offered to the general public via the Token Generation Event, which was held in two stages — pre-sale and main open sale.
40 519 277 NAVY were allocated during the pre-sale — it made 25% of the total supply. 60 114 060 NAVY tokens were sold during the open stage, it makes about 37.5%. Total amount of sold NAVY was 100 633 337 tokens.
Designing navigation systems is not an easy task, especially when creating marine navigation tools. To this day modern systems can not completely answer the specific demands of the private yachting sector. These systems are not user-friendly, not all of them support mobile devices and they lack vital information about the most important objects for yachtsmen. Such objects as marinas, fueling stations, services, and restaurants still remain almost completely unnoticed by navigation systems’ developers.
Navigation systems do not address the unique needs of private yachtsmen, which are the largest fleet in the world. One of such needs is the necessity to…
BoatPilot’s target region is European region. It was chosen as a starting point out of all possible yachting markets for several reasons.
The main factor is the conditions — European region has the best environment for the development of navigation and cartography technologies. With the major part of its foreign trade being carried out by sea, forecasts show that the market will grow from $150 million in 2014 to $166 million in 2020.
Other factors are the increased demand for transport vessels, the demand for high-precision charts and regular updates and the regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). …

BoatPilot’s augmented reality function is probably the most interesting component of the whole ecosystem. The main aim of this function is to make navigation save and easy. This trendy technology proves to be quite useful in marine navigation. There is indeed the need for AR technology, as sailing in the dark or in bad weather conditions happens far more often than many novice yachtsmen think.
Augmented reality function will use data gathered by BoatGod hardware module to provide advanced navigation and control capabilities. …
