I get your overall point, but I’ve never been comfortable with the idea that African or Black American culture is somehow outside of Western Culture, as opposed to a crucial part OF contemporary Western Culture. After all, the notion that Western Culture is still analogous with European culture died somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean long ago. Africa has been historically, geographically and culturally part of the story of the Americas for centuries and I don’t think that anyone could conceive of modern, western culture without African contributions as a key ingredient. I think it might be more useful to use the term “white culture” or “overculture” rather than Western Culture.
