Redefining Smartness
Bridgette Adu-Wadier

Being labeled smart really depends on who is giving the compliment. If someone I respect and admire intellectually gives me a sincere compliment regarding my intelligence, I’m likely to pull one of those cartoon “aww, shucks!” moments and turn a little red in the cheeks. If a fool calls me a smart (or stupid), I really don’t think much of it since they probably wouldn’t even be able to identify intelligence beyond a very average level anyway. So I’ll take all the smart compliments a philosophy professor, software engineer, or NASA scientist wants to give! The guy who sells his mother weed? He can call me whatever he wants to no response.
