Why we started #irl

For the past couple of month’s our friendship has been a little different. When Colton and I were kids we used to play sports outside and attend all sorts of events. While I was off consulting and performing improv in Chicago, Colton was rebuilding from career ending surgery. One knee surgery and two lower back surgeries ended his sports career at the early age of 23.

What used to be lively events quickly turned into more stagnant gatherings. I made it my mission to hang with Colton as often as possible. He was going through a lot and he needed someone to be there with him. Soon, although we were stagnant, we started using our imaginations to build a tool that would make reintegrating into the new world easy, and accessible. That is when we came up with #irl. #irl is a social tool, facilitating friendship using map exploration.

Colton is seeking new footing in the world after changing his identity from star athlete to young professional exploring the world. We are building a tool to help him chart growth towards his passions. A social tool that rewards him for connecting and shows him exactly what is going on around him on a map. www.irlevent.net
