In 1981, I started a job at Americans for Democratic Action in Washington, DC. My boss, the Deputy National Director, and I shared a very small office. She often brought her new baby to work. Most of us loved the idea. To me, it just seemed like something any enlightened employer would do. I was young and naive. Here we are, nearly four decades later, and this is still being discussed as a controversial new idea. (Sigh)
