One of the biggest reasons I heard for rejecting candidates during my tenure at LivingSocial was their lack of Github activity.

Forget that most of the candidates were working on private repositories, so the public activity looked sparse. So, while it may not have been on your radar, it’s something that I’ve seen thrown around in person and heard about at other companies as well. We lost a great front-end candidate and friend of mine to similar bullshit interviewing. He ended up alright as he got a gig at OKCupidin their front-end department and ended up also doing a lot of their on-television work (as the founders don’t care much for it).
