As we all know, the career home run record is 138 set by Roger Connor. Babe Ruth’s are a joke because whether or not he was juiced, the ball definitely was. Real baseball ceased to exist after 1919, although it is possible there has been less outright throwing of games post 1919. Maybe, as many believed, the real death of honest baseball began when it was professionalized, say officially in 1871.
Of course, we could argue that since Connor played when there were different pitching rules and distances, his is not the real record either. Maybe we need to figure out who hit the most homers from 1901–1919, or 1891–1919 or whatever era is considered the only true period in baseball.
