Great article. Resume writing and interviewing have changed significantly in the last 10 years. I’ve read that you should also have your own website where you write articles about difficult coding situations you have encountered and how you solved them and include a link in your resume and LinkedIn profile. At this point, maintaining your career takes almost as much time as your career.

I don’t agree with disclosing your hobbies on the resume. I might disclose on the cover letter if it has something to do with the company and the opportunity or location. It does put a human face on the resume but if the reader doesn’t like your hobby, your resume could get tossed.

I’ve also read that sometimes the resume is discarded by an auto bot based on a keyword search before it ever gets to an actual HR person.
