The Importance Of Focus In Today’s Distracted World
You may have read the title of this story and thought to yourself… ‘distracted world, huh? Yes, like it or not, we live in a distracted world. With social media, constant technological advancements, smarter marketing & everything else we are bombarded with today, we are distracted.
Don’t get me wrong… I am not one of those hippies that believe that the solution to everything is to live like it’s the 1960’s. I frickin’ love social media, technology, innovation and everything else that I just told you is making us distracted. But, whether we like it or not, those things are making us lose focus.
So, why is ‘the ability to be focused’ more important than ever in today’s world?
It’s because it’s no longer a given. Let me explain.
We live in a world where someone can sit down at a desk for 8 HOURS and get literally about 30 MINUTES worth of work done.
We didn’t use to live in a distracted world. Attention spans used to span for close to 20 minutes, now they span for 9 seconds (the average human attention span).
And because focus is no longer a given, if you are focused (and optimally productive) you now stand out. 20 years ago it was the norm. Now, with the same level of focus, are become a high achiever that outperforms, outproduces and outshines those around you. Pretty cool, huh?
Also, as we all know, focus produces the best results.
One study shows how multitasking (read: the lack of focus) actually decreased your IQ by 10%. Which may not sound like a lot, until you gain context. That same study shows that being stoned (getting high) decreases your IQ by only 5%.
#Focus is now more important than ever
While everyone else is distracted, focus will allow you to outproduce and outperform the competition.
Focus allows you to become a results-producing machine (not a stoned, drug-addict will little ambition & intelligence).
Focus is now a opportunity. Not just a norm.
