My fear is this will result in a new generation of devices that have an expiration date — that can be shut down whenever their manufacturer feels maintaining a web site is not worth the effort, or when they simply want to continue their revenue stream with some planned obsolesence. Unless I’m missing something, it also seems like these devices would be subject to hijacking if the original site’s domain expired or was hijacked.
