Each reader may have his own interpretation of the title. For me, the frame is only a setting for an artistic creation, it is the beginning and the end, but not the substance. Having no potrait in the gilded frame may mean that Miriam chose accomplishment in personal life rather than attemptinv to follow the difficult path of artistic creation . She dedicated her energy and talent to her family while painting came second, more as a hobby and in the end, there is nothing to show as an artistic endeavor. Certainly, there may be other interpretations and hopefully I will read more on Medium on this subject. I am also much interested to know the author’s own view that made him choose this title for his novel.
