We started teaching our kids that “if someone’s not having fun, you’re done” when they started playing with other kids and that when an answer is given you don’t continue to beg for that answer to change. We’ve taught our kids that we respect their bodies and they should too (tickling is fun, but if someone says “stop” you stop! God how I hated this as a kid!). But none of it seems like enough when my kid comes home and asks for songs that refer to women as hos and tells me his teacher played it for them in their second grade classroom.

I am terrified that as parents we don’t have the power to keep them from learning the lessons society is teaching.
