This is us, Act Green.

Our idea based on UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is to found and NGO that aims to solve the problem of landfills and food waste in Greece. But first we need to introduce ourselves. Our team consists of five members and was shaped for the needs of the course Social Issues, Social Innovation and Corporate Responsibility at Panteion University.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Thanks to this course we realised the importance of the SDG’s and we saw that these goals are actually achievable.

What we were expected to do was find the goal that was the most interesting to us. So, our first action was to do our research. What we found was that currently not a lot of people think about their food waste and some of them do not even know about compost. However, food waste is becoming such a huge problem not only for the environment, but for our society too.

So, we thought, yes, people actually need this NGO. This is the reason we decided to deal with the problem of landfills and food waste in Greece and set our goals:

*Awareness

*Adoption of green and low waste habits by the Greek citizens

*Establishment of central compost bins for people that can’t compost in their garden

Watching this video will give you a better point of view about food waste

It’s easy for many people to dismiss food waste as someone else’s problem. However the reality is that in the ‘developed’ world, more than 50% of food waste takes place in our homes. So, the bad news is we are half the problem. But the good news is….. this means we can be half the solution!

Let’s waste less and compost more!
